I like ABC news. I honor David Muir's work as the anchor of the nightly news show. I've followed Muir's work since he was a newscaster in Boston long ago. While I look forward to the nightly news, I am worried about the role major news channels like ABC are playing during a time when the Republican Administration is lawlessly and inhumanely working against our democratic values, laws, and people-centered nation. Recently ABC kowtow'd to Trump by settling one of Trump's many money-making lawsuits by giving Trump a big payout rather than bring the lawsuit to the courts. Many other major news channels and corporations have done the same--Trump is personally profiting from his use of lawsuits to make money.
Should ABC celebrate Trump's first 100 days with an interview? My answer to this is yes and no. If we don't give the public the opportunity to listen to Trump first hand, we allow him to manipulate his image with all kinds of propaganda instead. Yet, if ABC doesn't ask the tough questions and/or tailors the interview in a way that flatters Trump while not telling the hard, tough news of the Republican Administration's lawless, dehumanizing, authoritarian leadership, they will work against our humanity.
The questions I'd like ABC to ask Trump are the following:
- Why haven't you brought Kilmar Abrego Garcia home when the Supreme Court ruled that you should bring him home? Some would say that this is cause for impeachment--how do you respond to that?
- Why haven't you allowed due process for those deemed criminal by ICE? According to reports, many of those you sent to El Salvadorian prisons known for torture have no criminal records. Why would you jail innocent individuals? Why won't you allow due process?
- Why did you choose a Secretary of Health and Human Services who has no health or medical background? Why are you cutting funding to valuable life-saving medical/scientific research, research that will improve and save lives?
- What do you think about the growing measles epidemic in the southwest? How do we counter this epidemic? Why did you choose a Secretary of Health and Human Services who is known to be an anti-vaxxer? Isn't it true that you have all your vaccinations?
- Many have pointed to your leadership as sloppy. You have a DOGE team that is using word searches rather than informed strategic processes to fire people, delete valuable information, and cut essential programs that save lives. Your team appears to have arrested or detained people because of the color of their skin, last names, country of origin or tattoos rather than using due process to determine who is a criminal. You have deported a young American citizens in the midst of their cancer treatment. You have waged a tariff battle against the caution of countless bi-partisan experts who have said that this will decimate the country's economy. You have harmed our relations with our allies throughout the world. You have not stopped the war in Ukraine, but instead seemingly have supported Putin rather than the democratic nation of Ukraine. You have created opportunities for wealthy individuals throughout the world to meet with you at a price which appears to be a lawless use of your role as President to offer favors and make a personal profit. To many Americans, your leadership is dehumanizing, sloppy, wasteful, lawless and self-serving, how do you respond to that?
- Some call your leadership a Presidency of Retribution--why are you so angry at Americans? Why are you purposely hurting the United States' economy, rights, and natural resources rather than working to uplift life in the USA?
- Why are you cutting trees in so many public lands? Do you value our country's natural resources? Do you understand the need for us to protect our natural resources including healthy land, soil, plants, and air for generations to come?
- Some say you want to "dumb down the USA" by cutting valuable educational programs including Head Start? Is that true? Why don't you support top-notch, inclusive education programs for all int he United States?
- Why are you singling out transgender individuals and warring against such a small minority of people who simply want to live the lives they desire to live without harm to others?
- Is it true that you are indebted to Putin? Many say that you owe the Russians a lot of money and that Putin has something on you? Is this true? People say you laundered money for Russian oligarchs. Is this true?
- Why did you give pardon to the insurgents who traumatized so many, obstructed justice, vandalized the nation's capitol at a great cost to the American people, and even led to the death of police at the Nation's Capitol on January 6th?
- Some say that your assassination attempt in Butler was staged. Would you be willing to end that speculation by releasing your medical records related to the assassination attempt?
- Some say that you sexually assaulted minors at Epstein's island. Will you dispel those rumors by releasing all government records related to Epstein?
- Why did you choose Pam Bondi as your United States Attorney General? It is reported that she invested $3,900,000 in Truth Social stock. Did that influence your decision? Some say that she does your bidding rather than defend the laws in The United States Constitution--how do you respond to that?
- Why are you keeping Secretary Hegseth when he clearly has broken laws related to security and put our country in jeopardy? It was just reported that two Russian spies who were arrested had Hegseth's number on their mobile phones--is that true? If true, don't you think Hegseth's inability to securely transfer information is a threat to the USA and that he should be dismissed?
- You've fired top officials of color and who are women. Some say you are a racist, sexist White Supremacist President? How do you respond to that?
