Can you design your life? I believe you're able to design some aspects of your life, but not all. As I think of this topic today, I'm thinking about the categories you might consider when designing your life.
Money
Some people desire a lot of money--that's a goal they have, and as they design and build their life, they choose avenues that result in a lot of money. Making a lot of money was never a top priority for me, but I did want to make enough to support having and caring for a home and family.
Home
People will make all kinds of choices when it comes to what they consider home. There are some who are more nomadic and define home as a number of different places throughout their lives. There are others who are settlers who think of home as that one place they will create and nurture over time, and then there are those who fall in between the two extremes.
Family/Friends
People choose all kinds of definitions of family and friends. When we think about who we choose and nurture as friends and family, that helps us to understand what we choose for that aspect of our lives.
Hobbies
People invest in all kinds of hobbies. It's impossible to be involved in all pastimes, but in general, people invest deeply in a few or tend to try out many different hobbies and none with a very deep investment.
Health
Most people desire long, healthy lives, but how people get there via their routines will differ.
Work
The kind of work people choose will differ too based on all kinds of factors, and some will choose no work at all due to privilege or other matters.
Media
The media we choose and don't choose as well as the time we spend on media affects the life we design as well.
Every now and then we'll be called to redesign our lives. As we redesign we'll likely keep what worked well for us and revise what's ready for change. Onward.
