There are few to none on Earth that truly live a Christian life, a life like Christ. To mimic Christ's life is to give up on almost all Earthly possessions and to devote yourself to the most vulnerable amongst us.
Right now in the United States, our Republican Leadership represents a mostly un-Christian agenda as they slash funds and programs that truly help the most vulnerable amongst us. Though they continually act with words that exclaim their "Christian" ways; their ways rarely mimic the true teachings of Jesus Christ.
Now with the death of Pope Francis, many like me, are thinking about Christianity, the Roman Catholic Church, church leadership, and the teachings of Christ. Will we bring forward Pope Francis' Christ-like mission to uplift the vulnerable and serve humankind? If so, how might we do that?
As I think of this, I'm thinking about many people I know who use their talents, gifts, blessings, spirituality, time, and energy to contribute to betterment in society in all kinds of ways. I look to those people often for guidance, inspiration, modeling, and support with regard to my own choices and life ways.
So today as I go about my chores, I'll be thinking about ways that I can better my life in ways that are more Christ-like or Christian. As I write this, I want to acknowledge that I do not believe that any religion has the monopoly on what is right and good, but instead, I believe the best and most humane aspects of any religion bring people forward in positive ways. I also believe that every religion is "human-created" and no religion is without its harmful, hurtful acts or teachings too. I believe the world is continually evolving and I believe it's possible for the world to continually evolve towards greater good if we will it that way with our actions, words, and spirituality. Onward.
