Due to the requirements related to the recovery of a minor surgery, I've been revisiting what it means to have a healthy diet. This is an especially good time to think about this topic as I want to make the most of the veggies I grow in the garden.
Protein
Eating plenty of high protein foods seems to be a mainstay of most healthy eating advice. Getting that protein in low-cal, low-fat ways seems to be the most advantageous. With this in mind, I'm collecting a number of recipes for enjoyable foods that are high protein, low fat. So far some of those recipes include the following:
- tuna salad
- oatmeal-cottage cheese-egg pancakes
- black bean burgers
- hummus (this is high cal so it must be enjoyed in low quantities)
- roasted chicken - I love the sheet pan chicken dishes I've discovered
- Greek yogurt smoothies and bowls
- peanut tofu
I'll continue to add to this list.
Fruits and Veggies
Getting fiber from natural ingredients like fruits and veggies is valuable. We buy a lot of frozen fruits which are great for smoothies, yogurt bowls, and pancake toppings. I want to add more wonderful mostly veggie recipes to our weekly menus.
Healthy snacks
I like to crunch and healthy snacks that allow healthy crunchy include air popped popcorn and cut up veggies.
Little to no processed foods
I want to cut down on all processed foods. Our favorites in this category are crackers and corn chips.
Flavor
When food is flavorful, I am more satisfied. I want to work on adding more flavor to the foods I cook.
Revamping our weekly menu is a good goal right now.
