Thought provoking films and series

I just watched the whimsical, colorful series, Sirens, and at the end I was left with a number of questions about how we live life. The same was true when I watched the thought-provoking film, Juror 2. I love a show that leaves you with questions about life. With regard to both shows, I was left with questions that related to gray areas of life--areas of life without clear guidelines or solutions, murky, messy, complicated arenas of life.

For Juror 2, the greatest questions I was left with were these: When life presents you with an event that will likely upend the life you love and live now, how will you react--what will you do? What guidelines, values, and vision will impact your decision/ As I think of these questions, I realize that it's best to not let grave situations simmer too long without acting. For the most part, transparent, timely, honest, positive action will serve to mitigate grave consequences or pain. (That's my reaction now, but I will think more on this in time.)

For Sirens, in some ways, the questions I was left with had to do with survival and the life you choose to live. These questions come to mind: What are you willing to give up in order to live a good life? How do you define a good life? A central thought in the series was this: If it doesn't serve you, give it up. That's a thought to ponder and discuss. As I think more about that line and the characters reaction to it, I'm left with the questions: Who do we serve? Why do we serve? When do we choose to serve; and when do we choose not to serve? Who serves us; and is that service ethical or not? These are good questions to consider. In life, I've served many and many have served me too so I have a variety of situations to consider with regard to these questions; situations I will likely consider soon.

I read a quote recently that pointed to the fact that the more books we read, the more lives we live. The same is true for the films, series, and shows we watch. That theater provides us with multiple lives and situations to consider and potentially lead us ahead in positive ways. Onward.

Moving beyond the sadness and worry

If you read my blog, you know I've been very sad and worried about a loved one lately. His care needs are extensive and the needed ener...
