Thoughtful eating

 Many of our eating habits were instilled in us from an early age. Fortunately I grew up in a house that included lots of healthy food with three good meals a day. That said, our food choices and accessibility has changed a lot since I was a little girl. Now there are far more healthy choices available to us, and having those healthy choices on hand can really improve our overall diet. 

It takes time to thoughtfully change your habits in order to incorporate healthier food choices. Due to the recovery from a minor surgical procedure, I have the time to focus on this issue right now. What's the approach I'll take?

My Fitness Pal app

I have the My Fitness Pal app on my phone and that's a great app for tracking the calories and nutrition you put into your body. A few years ago when I contracted a personal trainer, the trainer adjusted the app to fit my personal needs with regard to protein and other nutritional requirements. If I consult the app each morning with regard to my planned diet for the day, I'll have a good guide as to what and how much to eat. 

Three meals a day

Three healthy meals a day with little to no snacking seems like the best healthy eating approach for me. Too often I've skipped meals in the past only to eat too much later since I'm so hungry. Planning the schedule to include three healthy meals a day is a positive aim. 

Lots of water

Water is the best drink. Simply eliminating most other drinks buys you calories and supports good nutritional choices. Black coffee is also a calorie-free favorite drink for me in the morning. 

Healthy choices on hand

Making sure that your cabinets are filled with healthy choices will set the stage for healthy eating. Foods that help us to have a healthy diet include lots of veggies, frozen fruits, sliced nuts, plain Greek yogurt, bananas, a collection of beans, healthy grains, tofu, chicken, cottage cheese, cheeses, healthy granola, and more. 

Meal planning

You're more apt to eat poorly if you don't create a meal plan. Week-long meal plans can really foster healthy eating as well as good budgeting too. 

Go to Recipes and Meals

Keeping a collection of your favorite recipes and meals on hand helps you to eat well. I want to be more conscientious about this and actually make a good list. 

Revising your eating habits can really increase the opportunity you have for healthy living. That's a good project for me right now. Onward.
