Summer's start is right around the corner. What does this mean for your life? I want this to be a happy, positive, and peaceful summer. What does that mean for me at this point in my life?
Acceptance
There are some dizzying situations in my midst that can be the source of great worry and dismay, however I've decided to simply accept the situation as it is, do what I can, and lend the situation no more questions or disagreement. Similar to a past chapter I experienced as an educator, this situation finds me at odds with those in charge. I can speculate about why and how this happened, but I'm tired of speculating and will simply accept the situation as it is. Looking back at when a similar situation occurred at school, the bottom line is a huge difference in life philosophy, and when that happens there's little success in those endeavors.
Advocacy
I will continue to join others to advocate for a more just, humane, and positive country--I don't agree with the undemocratic, dehumanizing, seemingly lawless, harmful, and deadly efforts of the Trump Terror Team.
Gardening
In so many ways, my garden is my peace place. I will continue to nurture the garden and use it as a source of good nutrition, natural beauty, experimentation, and good growth and peace.
Adventures
My family has a number of adventures planned in beautiful, natural settings - I love adventures.
Celebrations
There's a number of celebrations planned too - I also love celebrations.
Reunions
There's a couple of family/friend reunions planned - I really enjoy spending time with family and friends in beautiful settings.
Projects
I've got a long list of rainy day projects to work on. Hopefully the inspiration to get started on these tasks will come.
Teaching
I have a part-time summer teaching job. I'm looking forward to this job as it's in a positive setting and seems to be the kind of schedule and teaching environment that's enjoyable and meaningful.
Caregiving
I want to be there for family and friends as needed.
I find this chapter in life to be somewhat different than I expected. I didn't realize that there would be so much variation amongst people my age and how they live their lives--there are so many choices and a fair number of limitations too that affect people's choices about how they spend their time and energy at this later stage of life. In a sense, you have to create a good rhythm that works for you, your philosophy of life, and your loved ones. As lives become more complicated with extended families/friends, greater health needs, more limitations as well as more time and opportunity, creating a rhythm can be a bit of a challenge.
Happy summer to all!
Onward.
