I like to be there for people when needed, but I don't want to be there if not needed or desired. How do we know what people want of us--how do ensure that we're there for people when it matters?
Respect
People desire our respect for who they are and what they do.
Space
People need space to live their lives.
Connection
People want to be remembered. They want you to reach out now and then in positive, helpful, loving ways.
Good times
When people share your interests, they likely enjoy good times with you.
Privacy
People desire a fair amount of privacy--some want more, and some want less.
Support when needed
When people need extra support, they look forward to your help.
Advice?
Honestly, the only time people really want advice is if they ask for it. Otherwise it's important to be careful about dishing out advice.
Money?
It's good for people to make their own money, but sometimes some people may need a donation now and then.
Living a responsible, positive life yourself
When you live a good life yourself, that's an advantage for everyone around you--your positivity and good living ensures that others have greater freedom and care.
We mostly can't live for others, but we can live with others in mind. Onward.
