Joy in the midst of struggle

Most people I know face some struggles in life. The struggles range in type and magnitude, but I don’t know anyone that doesn’t have a few struggles. How do we face struggles? How do we retain joy amidst the struggles?

Do your part

Struggles do lessen when you do what you can to alleviate the challenges in your midst. When you are doing your part, you know you are part of the solution, not the problem.

Self care is vital

As the saying goes, you can’t help others if you don’t help yourself. To exhaust yourself and neglect needed rest and healthy habits means you won’t have much of value to give to others or to troubling situations.

Reach out for help

There are countless resources for help out there, but you often have to search for the just-right help that you need. Getting help is almost always needed when it comes to tough, challenging situations  if possible, creating a team approach to situations of struggle is best

Reprieve

Find ways to get a break from the challenge  Think about what you enjoy and make time for that

Guilt, sadness, and worry do little good

Guilt, sadness, and/or worry are inevitable emotions during challenging times it’s good to notice those emotions and react to those feelings in positive ways  Guilt may be a wake-up call that you can do more or it can be an emotion that leads you to understand a situation with greater clarity. Sadness is a natural emotion that we have to give in to at times. We may relieve sadness by focusing on good memories or recreating joyful times. Worry requires thought. Worry is good when it makes us aware of more we can do to support others, but worry is useless when it comes to situations we have no control over.
