I retired from an activity that wasn't serving me well. That activity was costing me sleep, good health, and good relationship energy. I'm not missing that activity at all, and it was good to make that choice.
Throughout life we have to make conscientious decisions to retire what no longer serves us or where we can no longer serve others. Usually when we do retire that which is no longer positive, we fill the time and energy with more positive endeavor.
As I think about this, I'm thinking of other areas of life ready for retirement. In some cases, some conversation topics are no longer useful or positive. Some pastimes I used to enjoy are also no longer positive, and there are new pastimes that are far more positive. Ways I contributed to others, in some cases, are ready for retirement while there are new additions to those categories as well.
When we think about retiring, we have to think about the future too. What will the future be like without those events? Is that something we're willing to live without? Life, in some ways, is a series of additions and deletions--and it's important to realize the value of both adding and subtracting from life's events. Onward.
