When your imagination is greater than your time, skill, knowledge, and ability

 A challenge that creative people and dreamers face all the time is that their imaginations are often greater than their time, skill, knowledge, and ability. A friend relayed that feeling to me yesterday. As she spoke about a creative dream she had, she noted that she doesn't have the time right now to achieve that dream. I responded that what she was feeling is a common experience for creative people and the best way to deal with that is to take it in a step-by-step fashion. 

I write a lot to order my thoughts in order to try to achieve the vision my imagination comes up with. I'm not sure if other dreamers like me actually dream a lot in the night too like I do. Often I wake up with new ideas, ideas that require time, ability, skill, and knowledge beyond my capacity. That's when I have to deconstruct those dreams into manageable pieces, then start working on the steps I'm able to accomplish. 

The book by Leo Lionni, Matthew's Dream, provides some focus with regard to the value of dreams and dreamers. I'm curious about what others have read or think about the challenge of dreams that are far greater than time, ability, knowledge, or skill. I'll be thinking about that too.
