What spirit will you bring to the holiday season? I thought about this today as I woke up all too aware of the challenges people are facing all around me. Sadly, this is a time when many are embracing hate and harm towards others rather than peace, love, and opportunity. At the national and international level, leaders are lying, cheating, and dominating in ways that truly set our world back in devastating, harmful ways. Never has hate, harm, force, and murder been a means to betterment--always creative, loving, imaginative ways to bring people together and enrich lives has led us ahead to a better world.
As I think about this, there's the temptation to get mired in the grief and despair given the hate and harm that surrounds us, but that does no one any good. We need to bring forward a spirit of generosity, grace, positivity, and care. Though the current times can make us feel small, we need to understand the gifts we have been given and share those gifts in positive ways. No one is without the capacity to help another in some way. The worst we can do is to stay stuck and do nothing.
So as I take my own advice, I am thinking of the ways that I can give during this season, and the ways that I can be positive and loving via the gifts of time, energy, and objects I give. Onward.
