A good house clean-up focuses on the things that you need and use. As life moves on, those things that you need and use change. As I get ready for yet another big clean-up and purge, I'm thinking about what I use now and will use in the days ahead.
Creativity/Work
Most of my creativity and work now and in the year ahead will involve reading, writing, tech, and gardening. I want my desk area to have easy access to what I need to use in that regard.
Cooking
With summer right around the corner, I will be doing less elaborate cooking and more simple, garden-fresh meals. That means I can tuck away many of my more elaborate cooking dishes and kitchen ware to make room for the supplies that support simple, fresh, easy cooking and meal prep.
Celebrations
We've got a wedding come up so there will be a few celebrations related to that. I want to put all my wedding celebration items in one place so as I prepare for the wedding shower and other events, I have easy access to those items. We also have a few birthdays so I want my cake making materials close by as well. Next fall, I'll likely do another clean up with the holidays in mind.
Gardening
Since this will be a very active summer, I'm going to keep the gardening simple. That means I'll spend some time organizing my many gardening supplies in a useful under-the-deck garden center and I'll also keep a few supplies in the garage.
Garage
Every year I do a big garage purge and the time for the purge is just around the corner. This year's hazardous waste day is April 19th so it seems like this Sunday has to be a big garage clean up day to get ready for the purge.
As I prep for the garage clean-up, I have to do the following jobs:
- organize all camping equipment
- organize grilling equipment
- organize tools - get rid of extra tools, equipment we don't need
- organize all sports equipment
