The wedding shower

The bride-to-be with her sisters and good friend

Several years ago my sister and I decided to continue our family's tradition of a home shower for the family's brides-to-be. Yesterday was the third time that we had a shower for a family member. Yesterday's shower was for my son's future wife.

We were fortunate to have good weather. My husband and my future daughter-in-law's father were the bartenders. For food we had four types of quiches including crabmeat/gruyere, spinach/feta, broccoli/cheddar, and bacon/shallot/gruyere. We also had fruits, fruit salad, green salad, bagels. blueberry scones, and a host of appetizers including nuts, cheese, crackers, and veggies/dip. For beverages there was wine, a French 75, juices, seltzer, coffee, and tea. And for desert we had a raspberry/vanilla cake, Maids of Honor pastries, and chocolates. It was a wonderful spread.

The celebration included appetizers, a short toast, opening gifts, then lunch and dessert. Guests decorated and hung hearts with relationship advice and a chair was decorated for the bride. There were flowers everywhere--flowers brought as gifts, flowers purchased, and flowers from the garden.

Today I'll talk to my sister about the tradition in general, and how we might continue to carry it forward. I also want to talk about future baby showers--what will that tradition look like? I think it's important to find ways to celebrate the good times and good people in your life. Good, loving celebrations help to create a strong foundation of family and friends. Onward.
