Due to healing from a preventative skin-cancer treatment, I'm relegated to stay indoors for a few days. While inside, I'll continue my goal of ridding my house of all unnecessary items as well as organizing the items that I have, need, and still desire. Before I start that challenge, I want to think about the categories of items I have.
Toiletries
Over time, we've collected a good number of toiletries from hotel stays, gifts, and purchases. I want to organize many of these into little baskets to bring with us when we rent houses for the family as it's good to have those baskets available to visitors. If I have too many, I may put together a little basket for a local women's shelter too.
Jewelry
I've never invested in jewelry, but once in a while I wear a bit of it. I'll put that in one place.
Clothes
I like having fewer clothes than lots of clothes. In the past few years I've identified what I like to wear for parties, garden work, hiking, biking, errands, housework--I'll organize around those themes and likely put together a bag of clothes I don't wear to give away.
Shoes
I've become very picky about shoes in the last few years since I've learned that good shoes translate into healthy walking and comfortable living. I'll get rid of old shoes that are no longer comfortable, useful, or in good shape.
Paperwork
There's always too much paperwork, but I'll sort through it and get rid of anything that doesn't matter. One aspect of the tech world that I LOVE is that most paperwork now is online.
School/art/creativity supplies
Since I'm still teaching, I need to organize my school supplies as well as my creativity/art supplies since I use them for teaching and also for creating.
Cards/gifts
I want to get better about giving sensitive, thoughtful gifts to those I love and care for at special occasions, I want to organize materials related to this.
Pots and pans
I don't need all the pots and pans I've acquired over time. I'll put together a box of those items to give to a local giveaway or second hand store.
Books
I've mostly culled our book collection, but there may be a few more to give away.
Linens
Like pots and pans, it's time to cull that collection and give away anything that's in good condition that we don't need.
I'm sure I'll think of other collections as I organize and purge. Onward.
