When a child acts out in school, it is typically a cry for help; a cry that screams "see me." Why don't children and people of all ages feel unseen and what can we do to "see them."
Listening
Unseen people may have experienced few to no people who truly listen to them and hear their words, their needs, their interests, and desires. Simply listening to people says, I see you.
Acknowledgement and appreciation
Letting people know that you notice their gifts and contribution with words, notes, and gifts of appreciation lets them know they are seen.
Support
Supporting people's interests, values, beliefs, and dreams is one more way to "see people" in significant ways.
Letting people live their own life
From the earliest ages, getting to know who a person is and what they desire is essential to allowing them to feel seen. The more we can acknowledge and lift a person's true self, the more that person will feel seen, and to feel seen is one aspect of living a good life for yourself and others.
