Sadly many American leaders right now are dehumanizing, greedy, lawless, deadly folks. I suppose there have always been leaders in our country that met that definition, but during my life, it seems that the humane leadership was greater than the dehumanizing, greedy leadership. I recognize that I've lived with considerable privilege given the fact that, in many ways, I was part of a privileged class due to my skin shade and geographical location. I didn't have to face the racism that many have faced. I didn't have to face grave poverty, devastating family issues, or tough physical or mental challenges. Sure, I've had my share of challenges, but those challenges are relatively small compared to what those who face life's gravest challenges endure.
Now, however, we have a great number of dehumanizing, powerful leaders in the United States who are trampling every value and belief I grew up with--they are trampling equal rights, good living for all, due process, freedom of speech, religious freedom and more. They are trampling these values, rights, and freedom in order to increase their personal profit, privilege, pleasure, and power--they truly believe that some of us hold value while most of us don't hold any value beyond serving their greedy aim. It's truly discouraging, worrisome, scary, and we must find ways to counter this deadly greed as it is not good for any of us.
What can we do?
- peacefully protest
- stay informed via reputable, honest media
- do what you can to create loving, positive, healthy, inclusive culture
- contribute with your resources of money, time, energy, and needed objects/skill
- enlist the support of others who can contribute to reversing this backwards, greedy, harmful leadership
- Understand that throughout history, the power of and for the people has succeeded
- Don't contribute to those who support evil in any way - resist shopping at their stores, contributing to their causes, voting for their leaders . . . . .(do the best you can--this takes time to figure out and adjust)
- Support those who need your support to do what is right and good for themselves and others
- Make time to get involved locally--advocate for positive local decisions for education, health care, recreation, environmental protections, and worthy services/benefits.
- Counter people's will to give up in light of the evil leaders' dehumanizing lies, gaslighting, violence, and threats.
- Live as good a life as you can for yourself and others--be inclusive, generous, authentically kind, honest, humble, and loving.
