Dealing with negativity

Negativity, in general, takes us down while positivity generally lifts us up. My first reaction when I encounter negativity in others is to wonder why they are so negative, cold, and unfriendly. I try to analyze past days, encounters, and life events to figure out what makes these people so negative. Usually I can point to tough life events or challenging, and perhaps unreasonable, life dreams or desires. Nevertheless, when people are negative, their negativity casts a cold shadow on the world around them.

On the other hand, people's positivity lifts up people around them. Positivity is often contagious. Sometimes I call a positive friend that I have simply to be inspired since she is full of good ideas and a bright outlook. Her positivity lifts me up and improves my life in countless ways.

What is the best way to deal with negative people since negative people repel you rather than invite you to be apart of their lives.

First, if someone is negative most of the time, there's a reason for that negativity. Perhaps their challenges in life are overwhelming, or perhaps they simply don't enjoy your company or see eye-to-eye with you about life's priorities or endeavor. If you don't have what the negative person needs, it's probably best to distance yourself from them. They clearly don't desire your company, but if you do have what they need, it's a good idea to reach out and help out.

It's also important to check yourself for negativity--are you mostly negative in your speech or action? If so, why is this true and what can you change to make your demeanor, outreach, and life more positive. Onward.
