Change happens. Change happens due to new babies, marriages, break-ups, moves, job changes, school starts and ends, illness, and so much more. When change happens, things don't stay the same, and if you try to go on as if there hasn't been a change, you are certainly headed for some error and disappointment. Yet, when change happens, you don't always know what to expect because it takes time for the change to become a regular part of your routine. So, how can you respond to change when you don't know exactly what to expect.
Take it gently
Rather than proceed as if nothing has happened or as if you know exactly what to do, it's best to respond to change gently with open eyes, open ears, and an open heart. Take it step by step. For example, my life is full of all kinds of changes at the moment, but one change in particular puts me in the passenger seat rather than the driver's seat (if you know me, you know I like to "drive."). So with this change, I have to be far more of a responder than a leader. Yet, I also have to make sure to maintain the aspects of life that help me to live a healthy, happy life too. I have to remind myself, Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream. . . .
Prioritize
Think about the change at hand, and prioritize about what's most important with regard to the change. How will you secure the important parts of life that this change impacts.
Have an open mind
Don't be too quick to judge, instead meet the change with an open mind and open heart.
Incremental steps are better than giant steps
Take the change slowly with incremental steps--don't try to do it all. One step after another.
Onward.
