There are detractions in life, and those detractions can impede happiness, self-worth, positivity, and good living. We can be the victims of detraction and we can detract ourselves--neither is a positive way of being. So, first, how do we not detract from others?
To not detract from others, there's lots that we can do. First, listen to others--when you truly listen, you hear who people are and what they desire, need, and choose. Listening leads to deep understanding, and deep understanding coupled with care and respect ensures that we won't detract from others. Next, recognize that everyone will live their own life, and the choices people make will differ greatly. You may agree with some decisions and disagree with others, but nevertheless, people will make their own decisions and it's up to us to respect those decisions as long as the decisions don't harm or hurt others. Also, rather than detract, you can choose to support others by showing interest and enthusiasm in the decisions they make.
When others detract from our decisions, interests, or ways of being, we have choice as to how we react. First, when you identify detractors, don't share as much information with them as they are not supporters, but instead detractors who will work against your good efforts and experiences. Also, it may be helpful to spend less time with detractors as negative energy does no one any good. Lean toward positivity in life rather than negativity and detractions.
Onward.
